Super Bowl XLIV

Well this is my first blog post. I was at home with my wife and kids watching the Colts vs. the Saints. At one point my son who is 2.5 years old got up on the couch with me and pulled the blanket over himself, just like Daddy had. (I had a blanket over me as I was watching the game).

So as I was watching the game, the 1st quarter seemed to be all Colts. I was thinking “Oh boy I hope this won’t be a blowout.” Then CBS puts a blurb that the largest deficit that a team came back and won was 10 points (SB XXII Denver was up 10-0 over Washington). So I am thinking that Brees and the Saints “O” are good enough to keep it a game. Of course every year I hope for the Super Bowl to go into overtime. Well the Saints dominated the 2nd quarter but managed only 6 points. So going into the 3rd quarter, the Colts were going to receive the kickoff and I am thinking with a 10-6 lead, Manning is going to lead them down to pay dirt and put pressure on the Saints. Well what happened next was shocking and a ballsy call. An onside kick!! The Saints recover!! The Saints drive down and score a TD and now we have a game!!! 13-10 Saints. Colts then answer back with a TD making the score 17-13. Saints next drive resulted in a FG making the score 17-16 Colts. So now I am feeling that there is a strong possibility of an overtime game as we go into the 4th quarter especially if the Saints score and go for 2. Well after a Matt Stover Missed FG from 51 yards out, the Saints marched down and scored. The Saints then go for 2 and initially I saw it as a completed 2 point conversion. The official signaled incomplete. The Saints challenged the play. Watching the replay in slow motion (in HD which is awesome BTW) you can see where Moore catches the ball, the ball is over the goal line and then when he hits the ground initially there is a slight bobble. So he would need to re-establish possession and control of the catch which he does. Then within a fraction of a second later, the Colt defender leg knocks the ball away from Moore. So the call is reversed (Which it should of been). Now the Saints are up 7 with 5:42 left to play in regulation. So at this point, if I was a betting man, I would of put $1,000 on the Colts marching down, scoring a TD and sending the game into overtime. Well it is a good thing I am not a gambler. Manning throws an interception and the Saints return it for a TD which pretty much sealed the game. Overall a clean game with only 1 turnover which was HUGE!

So now I will talk about the Super Bowl Ads. No of them were real exciting to me. However, I am going to talk about the Tim Tebow “Controversial” commercial. I am glad that CBS didn’t cave and pulled the commercial. After watching the commercial, I am wondering what was the big deal? See for yourself in case you missed it.

But it got me thinking though. What if CBS pulled it? Or what if CBS ran a commercial which talks about a gay dating website? Or what if CBS ran both commercials? Since freedom of speech is protected under the 1st amendment, I wouldn’t have a problem if CBS ran both commercials. Now I think being gay is an immoral act, (meaning it is a choice). However, if they (the gay community) wish to advertise their agenda, that is protected under the 1st amendment and should be allowed. Just like if a Christian community wishes to advertise their agenda, then that should be allowed as well. In life, there are choices to be made, which is your “free will”. If you wish to choose to live a gay lifestyle, then that is your choice. Just like accepting Christ as your Lord and savior. That is a choice which is made of your “free will”. So while the “left” made a big stink about the commercial, in the end, it was a harmless commercial. It did give the viewer a choice to go to a website and explore further.
